Product Description
The SAUVION house is located in the heart of the Nantes vineyard in Château du Cléray-Sauvion in Eolie; Eolie, land of the wind, relating thus to the ocean breeze, that comes to gently sweep through the vines. This château belonging to the SAUVION family since 1935 is, with its old vaulted cellars, one of the most ancient properties in the Sèvre et Maine vineyard. It spreads over 95 hectares, producing mainly the famous 'Haute Culture Château du Cléray' Muscadet Sèvre & Maine sur lie, but also Gros-Plant, Chardonnay and Sauvignon. The terroir of silice and clay is late to ripen, but offers a long ageing potential.Since the beginning, the SAUVION house has its own position in the appellation, thanks to its style, the quality of its Muscadet, as well as its distribution essentially focused in the winemerchant channel and the niche markets. To mark its difference, the SAUVION house, distinguishes itself by proposing Haute Culture de Sauvion, a finely presented range of Muscadet directed to gourmet restaurants, and that express finesse, elegance and style, thus embodying the SAUVION 'signature'. These Muscadet Haute Culture also reveal the features of the terroir and a few of these wines, thanks to their richness and structure, become surprising ageing cuvees, a reminder of the Burgundian origine of the melon varietal.Since the early days of their activity, Yves and Jean-Ernest SAUVION have spared no efforts to ennoble their Muscadet as well as the whole appellation. They export more than 60% of their production in over 80 countries, acting therefore as the ambassadors of the Nantes vineyard. The Muscadet can be found on the most prestigious tables around the world.Pierre-Jean Sauvion, son of Yves Sauvion, was born right in the middle of the 'garden', since his parents' house is sourrounded by vines. Wine fanatic, Pierre-Jean spent his childhood in the wines and vines environment. Pierre-Jean is an 'oenologist', graduated from the Bordeaux university. After his studies, he worked in California, Australia, and in many wine regions in France as a wine-maker. In 2004, Pierre-Jean joined the Sauvion family house, where he settled and is now in charge of all the technical aspects. His motto is : passion for wine !Eolie is a source for inspiration : Pierre-Jean Sauvion calls himself ''Façonneur de Plaisir'', (pleasure craftsman), willing thereby to share his passion and the pleasure of taste. Thus every year, he crafts a new vintage, synonym for a wine of pleasure.
